Image: Perhaps the only thing Re Pillow Co. and 100 Mao have in common is that they are both in Kwai Chung, and only two streets apart. But in terms of scale, strength, and vision... I feel I'm not quite up to par.
This Friday I met with 100mo, a well-known Hong Kong online media company, and we got to know each other. Although the content of our discussion cannot be made public here, I would like to record it here.
Hello everyone! Welcome back to this week's journal. I've been writing this journal every week since mid-2022, one entry per week, for a year and a half now, witnessing the ups and downs of Re Pillow Co. I know I'm just an ordinary person, so I hope to keep some records, not only for my own expression and relief, but also to help others. Hopefully, when someone wants to start a business, or when they feel confused and lost, seeing these journal entries and witnessing that others have walked similar paths can inspire them not to give up. And if I'm fortunate enough, they might even find some valuable guidance.
Different things happened this week, but some are too personal to write about here. After all, I am only one person, and like you, life inevitably brings different things and troubles. Everyone faces their own difficulties, which others may not understand or be able to help them with.
This week, my main focus is on meeting with representatives of the "100-cent party." The "100-cent party" represents Hong Kong. This is a well-known online media company, perhaps unfamiliar to both younger and older generations. They've produced $1 "Black Paper," $10 magazines like "100 Cents," and an online video platform called "Moo's TV." They remain active on various online platforms, managing their own artists and acting as managers for YouTubers and KOLs (influencers). The main purpose of this meeting was to understand their current pricing and collaboration methods for hiring them or their artists for online promotion. While Re Pillow Co. has many excellent customers who frequently recommend our products to friends and relatives, we must admit that our brand awareness and scale are very small in the market. This small size means bankruptcy is a daily threat. Even high customer satisfaction is useless if we can't survive; therefore, expanding our brand awareness is essential.
The representative from 100mao was actually very nice, genuinely friendly, and understanding of our situation as a small company where we have to be careful with every penny. They also explained their work and the scope of their work with different clients. Although this discussion didn't lead to any immediate short-term cooperation (we're not at a point where we can afford it yet), it was honestly eye-opening, allowing me to understand the operations and marketing methods of other large companies. I hope we can collaborate someday.
