Hong Kong's weather is sometimes unpredictable, making it difficult to choose the right comforter! Moreover, there are so many styles of comforters on the market, how can you choose the right one for you? Let us analyze them for you here.
Characteristics of different quilts

To understand how to choose the right comforter, you can start by looking at the materials and characteristics of different comforters. Below, we will introduce several of the most common types of comforters:
Down comforter
Down comforters are a common type of winter bedding. Down is known for its softness and lightness, weighing only one-third of a regular wool comforter, and it's highly breathable and provides excellent warmth. However, in recent years, numerous reports have exposed unscrupulous down manufacturers who pluck the feathers of live ducks and geese to produce more comforters and products. Customers can check for "Responsible Down Standard" certification when purchasing down comforters to avoid unknowingly supporting inhumane practices.
wool quilt
Wool comforters are traditionally considered the best winter comforter among all types of quilts due to their high warmth retention. Their advantage lies in their exceptional warmth, making them particularly popular abroad. Even on Hong Kong's coldest days, they remain a suitable and comfortable comforter. Wool comforters are also not as expensive as down comforters. However, on many milder winter days in Hong Kong, wool comforters may be a bit too warm, and they are also among the heavier comforters available.
Silk quilt (also known as silk quilt)
Silk quilts (also known as silk cotton quilts) are another type of bedding made from natural materials, typically using a mixture of silk and cotton as the filling . Depending on the amount of silk used, silk quilts can be made for summer or winter. Silk is the silk spun by silkworms. In nature, silkworms spin silk to form cocoons and then transform into moths. When making silk quilts, workers carefully place the silkworms on a flat surface just before they are about to spin their cocoons, preventing them from covering themselves with silk. This forces the silkworms to eventually spit out the silk directly onto the surface, which is then used to make the quilt. Silk quilts are lightweight and very warm. However, many unscrupulous merchants, in order to quickly obtain silk and ensure its integrity (because longer silk threads can fetch a higher price), will boil the cocoons at high temperatures, killing the silkworms, before extracting the silk. Countless silkworms are scalded to death under high temperatures to extract the silk for the quilt. Unlike down products, silk products do not have international humanitarian standards.
synthetic fiber quilt
Synthetic fiber comforters are another common type of comforter. By adjusting the weight and density of the synthetic fibers, the comforter can be made for summer or winter. Because synthetic fibers are man-made materials, they are highly malleable, allowing for a wide range of thicknesses and textures. They can be specially designed for specific seasons, unlike natural materials which have inherent limitations. Furthermore, synthetic fiber comforters are soft and lightweight, like down comforters, but even better, they contain no animal components.
air conditioning
Air-conditioned blankets are thin and lightweight, making them especially popular in Hong Kong's climate. The inner core is mostly made of specially fine synthetic fibers, maintaining its lightweight nature without being too warm, so that users don't feel too hot when sleeping in the summer.
Things to note when choosing a quilt

So, what should consumers pay attention to when choosing a quilt?
Allergic reactions
First, if the filling material is made from animal-derived ingredients, consumers should consider whether they might be allergic. Quilts made from animal-derived materials such as down, wool, and silk may cause skin sensitivities in some people. Don't assume that because the filling material is covered by the quilt cover, it won't cause allergies. Even the most tightly woven fabrics have many micropores on their surface, allowing the filling material to come into direct contact with the skin. Therefore, consumers should check the materials before purchasing to see if any animal-derived ingredients might cause allergies.
Breathability
In addition, consumers should also pay attention to whether the breathability of the quilt is indicated. Breathability is very important for a good quilt, especially for summer use. Hong Kong's summer weather is hot and humid, and if the quilt is not breathable enough, it will affect sleep quality.
Space Format Design
In addition, another point worth noting is whether the quilt has a compartmentalized design. If the quilt does not have a compartmentalized design, or if the compartments are insufficient, the filling will easily shift after a period of use, resulting in some parts being thicker and others thinner, with uneven distribution of the filling material, which will affect its use.
Lightweight is best
Finally, a lightweight blanket is best. While some may find a heavy blanket provides a sense of security, from a health perspective, a lightweight blanket is preferable. This is because a heavy blanket can affect breathing and cardiovascular circulation while sleeping, especially for those who are restless sleepers. When asleep, our sleeping posture is not always ideal, and a heavy blanket may increase the burden on our heart, affecting blood circulation. Therefore, a lightweight blanket is preferable.
Our bedding recommendation—Re Quilt

A good comforter is not easy to find, and many foreign brands on the market may not be suitable for Hong Kong. For example, the climate in Europe is different from that in Hong Kong; it is much colder, but it doesn't have the humid heat of Hong Kong summers. Therefore, European comforters may have different requirements for warmth and breathability, and foreign comforter recommendations may not be suitable for Hong Kong people.
We recommend two comforters designed specifically for Hong Kong's weather: Re Quilt 2 and Re Quilt Winter 2. Re Quilt 2 is designed for Hong Kong's summers, suitable for an average temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, and is a lightweight and comfortable air-conditioned comforter. Re Quilt Winter 2 is a winter comforter, suitable for Hong Kong's winter climate with an average temperature of 15 degrees Celsius. Both comforters are made of synthetic fibers specifically designed for Hong Kong's climate, are soft and breathable, and are neither too thick nor too thin, making them ideal for Hong Kong's environment.

The image above was drawn more than two years ago when we designed the first generation Re Quilt. Although Re Quilt has now evolved into the second generation, this image is still applicable because it represents the core of Re Quilt.
That's why, with these two comforters, users no longer need to search frantically for a new comforter. The comforters also feature a modular design, preventing the inner filling from shifting. The design of these two comforters is also very thoughtful. First, the comforters have reinforced edges, making them more sturdy and durable. In addition, small loops are added to the corners of the comforters so you can tie them to the duvet cover, which has internal drawstrings, preventing the comforters from shifting inside the cover. The two comforters can also be fastened together with the included buttons for extra thickness, perfect for the coldest days. Visit the official website now to learn more!
