Hong Kong Map Special Edition Bed Cover

This October marks the fourth anniversary of the launch of the first-generation Re Pillow. In the past few years, I went from making pillows by hand for myself and friends at a relative's industrial unit on weekends to gradually seeing Re Pillow Co. grow into a real business. After graduation, I worked full-time at Re Pillow Co. There have been ups and downs, many wrong decisions, and many days of immense stress, anxiety, and sleepless nights. Stumbling through to the fourth anniversary, I am still grateful for the journey.

As we reach this special fourth anniversary, please forgive my impulsiveness in wanting to do something I've always wanted to do: create a bedsheet featuring Hong Kong street names. Hong Kong is where I was nurtured and where I grew up. Different street names evoke memories from different periods of my life. Perhaps there was a time I frequently frequented certain streets, or a time I often walked that special someone home down a particular street, or a night filled with memories there... If you understand what I mean, you'll get it. Street names can trigger memories of different periods in your life.

Every street holds different meanings and memories for each person.

And these memories are known only to you. Seeing the street name on the bed, you can reminisce about those days.

To celebrate our 4th anniversary, we specially invited a local artist (whose name we cannot disclose out of respect for his privacy) to handwrite the names of the main streets in Hong Kong and Kowloon Peninsula one by one, adding street lines as appropriate to form a map. The street names are also in different colors and sizes. We hope to dedicate this to everyone who lives or has lived in our city.

The project is named "Hong Kong - Our City. My Home." because we want to express that even though the outside world is vast and we understand that Hong Kong has its share of problems, this place is ultimately our "home." We also hope that if you are far away, this bedsheet can help you recall the wonderful times you had in our city.

When creating this bedspread, I had to manually typeset, draw, and write (yes, every single character was handwritten by the artist, not a computer font). I noticed that Hong Kong's street names are truly distinctive, encompassing local representatives like "Chuk Yuen Road" and "Tak On Street," as well as colonial ones like "Argyle Street" and " "King's Road." There are also down-to-earth names such as "Police Station Path" and "Ferry Street"... Hong Kong is truly such a place.

I chose a dark blue background with light blue, grey, and white lettering, which evokes the feeling of returning to Hong Kong on a night flight, looking out the window at the darkness all around, with the myriad lights outlining the contours of our city.

Many streets in Hong Kong have stories behind them. In the early 20th century during the colonial era, Francisco Paulo de Vasconcelos Soares, a Portuguese man, hoped to establish a Portuguese residential area in Ho Man Tin. He named three of Ho Man Tin's main streets after himself, Soares Avenue; after his wife, Emma Avenue; and after his daughter, Julia Avenue. Although the Portuguese residential area no longer exists, the street names have been retained to this day.

Because the entire top sheet is hand-painted by artists rather than using computer fonts, hand-painted works will inevitably have some "flaws" and imperfections. When reviewing the draft, obvious issues will be revised, but minor imperfections, such as imperfect brushstrokes, will be retained because this is more of an artistic creation than a commercial product, which adds a more artistic feel to the top sheet.

In the image above, you can see the two strokes of the character "夏" (Ha) in Harcourt Road. The original draft already contained brushstrokes with varying depths, and we have reproduced this detail when printing the bedsheets.

With this special edition bed sheet, whether twin or double size, you will receive two standard size (28" x 18" inches) pillowcases designed by the same artist. These pillowcases fit most pillows on the market, allowing you to create a matching set. One side of the pillowcase features a street print, while the other side is solid gray, offering versatility to match your personal preference.

被袋特別採用底面不同色的設計，與被面及床面形成對比，亦和枕頭套的底面配色襯成一對，一些小心思，但襯起來就更為好看。

As this is a special edition top sheetper, we currently do not plan to sell it long-term. Therefore, we will only offer the following mattress sizes, which are most commonly used by customers:

• 3 ft X 6 ft (90 X 183CM)
• 3 ft X 6 ft 3 (90 X 190CM)
• 4 ft X 6 ft (120 X 183CM)
• 4 ft X 6 ft 3 (120 X 190CM)
• 4 ft 6 in X 6 ft (137 X 183CM)
• 4 ft 6 in X 6 ft 3 (137 X 190CM)
• 5 ft X 6 ft (152 X 183CM)
• 5 ft X 6 ft 3 (152 X 190CM)

The above allows for an error margin of up to 2-3CM. For example, if your mattress is 122x183CM, you can choose 120x183CM.

The map coverage will also vary with different sizes; larger beds will show a larger map area. For 5-foot and 4-and-a-half-foot wide beds, the map extends west to Lai King and a small part of Kwai Chung, and east to Kai Tak and Kowloon Bay. For a four-foot wide bed (as demonstrated on the website), the west side covers the entire Cheung Sha Wan, and the east side reaches approximately San Po Kong and Diamond Hill. For a three-foot wide single bed, the west extends approximately to Sham Shui Po, and the east covers the entire Kowloon City and a small part of San Po Kong.
