First of all, I would like to thank all my colleagues, especially those stationed at Yat Tin in Sha Tin. Everyone has worked hard during this period.
When I first started my business, a senior colleague told me to cherish the initial startup phase because it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience. At the time, I didn't understand what he meant. Instead, I wanted to quickly become like him, with a respectable social standing and a thriving business, numerous branches, excellent brand recognition, and large sales volume… Back then, I was just starting out, making only a few hundred or a few thousand dollars. What was so great about that? What was there to enjoy? I didn't understand.
After a few years, I think I'm starting to understand what my seniors meant. There's a saying, "If you think highly of others, they'll think highly of you." I wouldn't say those pretentious things like "money is useless," but undeniably, as the business grows—for example, from managing an online store to having several physical stores now—there are definitely more and more problems. These include personnel, management, potential conflicts between colleagues, inventory management, and so on. Costs rise with scale. After deducting salaries and rent, the worries and workload definitely increase, but the money doesn't necessarily increase.
I have some friends who are in business, mostly around the same age or a bit older than me. Their solution to what you might call "more troubles encountered when expanding a business" is to maintain the current scale. They put aside the money they earn from their jobs and simply keep the business at roughly the same size. There's no right or wrong in this approach; in some ways, it might be a more comfortable and rational decision… I sometimes wonder what I'm doing, but it's perfectly reasonable. However, I know my own personality; I want to keep going, I want to try and keep working hard. No, I might fail, but at least I want to try. Hong Kong's unemployment rate isn't high, and I'm not stupid. Even if I fail, I shouldn't starve.
So, starting this week, we've decided to hold a pop-up roadshow at Yat Tin in Sha Tin for three and a half weeks, to try reaching more people and stepping outside our comfort zones. Finally, I really want to thank all my colleagues again, especially those stationed at Yat Tin in Sha Tin; everyone has worked so hard during this period.
